Many people have to use public transportation to get from one point to another. When using a public bus, train, tram, or something else, you should be considerate of everyone around you. This will make their experience stress-free and more pleasant.
Everyone knows that the seating is limited on public transportation. Therefore, when you find one, you count yourself lucky. However, taking two when you only require one is seen as greedy!
One woman didn’t care that her bag took up one whole seat, and she ended up learning a valuable lesson. Continue reading to find out what happened to her.
One passenger in the rear of the bus shouted that they’d have one more seat to use if a woman was removed. That might sound like a bad scenario, but it only got worse. One entitled woman yelled that the bag was in her personal space.
Large amounts of people pile onto public transportation, and this comes with both unspoken and official rules to follow. When one woman chose not to follow the laws, everyone else on the train taught her a valuable lesson in respect.
As with others, Jessica Huit was heading home after a long and chaotic workday. She knew NYC streets well and had seen everything happen on trains, or so she believed. It was during rush hour that she hopped on the next subway to get to her destination.
Rush hour means crowded trains, and being a passenger can be very uncomfortable. You often have to stand and wait for a seat to become available. Common knowledge says that you should only take one seat, which means others can sit like you.
Searching for a Seat
By the time Jessica got on the train, she was drained. She realized there’d be overcrowding because of the time frame. However, she had to be there for 1.5 hours and was determined to find a seat, finally coming across one.
A Vacant Seat
There was a single vacant seat in the very last carriage, and a young woman was there. She glanced around at everyone standing, wondering why no one had claimed the chair. It seemed to be in good condition, but there was a bag on it.
Individuals often use anti-social behaviors when they’re in small spaces with other people. They may dislike crowds and feel a little claustrophobic, which brings out the worst in them. This was true for the lady in question.
Jessica asked the lady nicely if she could sit in the seat. This woman had chosen to put her Louis Vuitton bag on the empty seat next to her to protect it, but that meant so many others had to stand. What was the deal?!
This woman ignored Jessica because of the earphones in her ears and the inability to look up from her phone. She pretended she didn’t see Jessica. Now, the train stopped; security entered the train car to deal with the situation.
Jessica now realized that she wasn’t the first to request the seat and have the woman dismiss her. The officers had entered the carriage to handle the matter, and Jessica stepped back to observe the situation.
Getting off That Train
The officer noticed the woman and the purse taking up another seat. He told her she had to put it in the overhead trunk area, but she slapped at his hand and demanded that he not touch her stuff. This woman was about to get removed from that train!
The officer extended his hand to move the purse for her, and she realized he wasn’t going away. Therefore, she removed her earphones, and he asked her if someone could sit beside her. She said she didn’t want that to happen; there were other seats available.
A man two seats away was quite annoyed, saying that the train was late to its destination because of her. However, that didn’t stop her; she was adamant and stood up to the police officer. Other passengers were tired of her shenanigans.
Other train passengers were quite frustrated. It seemed like everyone started shouting at once about there being no other spaces, and that was true. They were all standing because of her. Now, the officer also lost his patience with the woman.
The police officer realized it was time to be stern. Therefore, he said that she would have to take her bag off the available seat, or he’d remove her from that train. Clearly, these passengers were upset and angry about the whole thing.
Now, the hateful woman looked up into the crowd of other commuters and claimed that no one was pregnant or disabled, so they could stand. Likewise, she claimed that everyone’s body odor was revolting, and she didn’t want to get bed bugs from them.
This entitled woman wasn’t done! She claimed that the seat beside her was her personal space. One passenger fired back that it wasn’t her property at all! The officer was at his breaking point and had lost his composure.
Getting Her Off
The officer yelled at the woman to get off the train. She was stunned to experience this kind of treatment. However, he said that if she was so adamant about personal space, she could have it outside but not on the train.
No Backing Down
This woman looked at the cop with shock on her face because he called her out over the disrespect she was showing others. However, she put up a fight. The train was now late by about 25 minutes, but she wouldn’t cooperate!
Walk of Shame
The woman refused to leave her seat until she saw other police officers coming into the carriage. Then, she shook her head and rolled her eyes. However, she got her bag and stood up. Finally, she left the train with the officers behind her.
As with many interactions, someone filmed the entire encounter on their phone, and the footage made its rounds. People were quick to respond, and most of them were shocked at the woman’s selfishness. Did she expect anything less?
The Crowd’s Reaction
Most commenters criticized the woman, and one YouTube viewer said they hoped she learned her lesson. Others pointed out that people could have had invisible disabilities that aren’t seen from the outside, making her actions look even worse!
New Jersey Transit
The woman’s selfishness went viral, which caused a spokeswoman for New Jersey Transit to issue a statement. It urged passengers to use the overhead luggage racks for purses and suitcases to avoid similar issues in the future.
Getting Her Seat
When the woman left the train, a stranger signaled to Jessica to take the newly vacated seat. She was moved by the kindness, especially after everything she’d witnessed. Finally, the officer gave a signal that the train could continue on its route.
Jessica had lived in NYC for many years and had never experienced anything like that. This wasn’t normal, and she hoped she wouldn’t have to deal with a passenger like that ever again. She decided it was part of life and moved on!
Everyone has had a negative experience while using public transportation. In some cases, they are unpleasant because people just can’t be reasoned with. Let’s talk about one very disrespectful child now!
Teaching a Lesson
Most people wouldn’t call taking the subway a pleasant experience. However, it becomes even worse when other passengers are rude or inconsiderate. One young boy took up three whole seats, which angered the others on the train.
People use public transportation for many reasons. They might not be able to afford a vehicle, and it makes little sense when you’re in a large city that might charge for parking. Therefore, it’s frustrating to deal with a rude passenger!
Public transportation is now a dog-eat-dog world. If you allow other people to mistreat you, it will be repeated over and over. However, that shouldn’t excuse people from being rude and acting selfishly. You have to tell them they’re being inconsiderate!
Human nature often comes into play, and when something is scarce, your instincts kick in. When you’re on a crowded train, you battle to get a seat, which is why so many people get aggressive on public transportation and can’t act rationally.
There are often times when passengers refuse to give up a seat to someone in a priority category, such as the disabled, pregnant, and elderly. These cases are baffling because it’s clear those people should get a seat.
Selfish people use public transportation. They feel a sense of entitlement that lets them act that way, which leads to taking more space than they need. Most will refuse to move, which makes the situation worse!
People react to these situations in multiple ways. They might want to reach an agreement peacefully if possible. Others are just as rude, arguing until they get a seat. Everyone acts differently, which can escalate things quickly when that doesn’t have to happen.
Looking for Trouble
In worst-case scenarios, those who feel wronged will use violence to fix the problem. This happens frequently on public transportation, and it’s uncomfortable for everyone involved. A seat on a train or bus isn’t reason enough to become violent!
A Viral Tweet
What happened to the boy who took up three spaces? A commuter filmed the situation and shared it on their social media account. It ended up going viral and had 130,000 likes, thousands of comments, and 47,000 retweets. Clearly, he learned his lesson.
Many comments on that Twitter post praised the man who took action against the boy’s entitlement. They claimed that he had restored their faith in humanity because he’d put the child in his place, and rightfully so.
Three people could have sat in the space occupied by one boy. This is often frustrating during rush hour because seating is limited, and there are more people on the train. Therefore, one man righted that wrong!
It appears that the boy was in his own world and not paying attention to the other passengers’ requests for him to move so that they could sit. This led to more frustration, which is why the man took action.
The man had politely asked the child to move his feet and was ignored completely. Therefore, he didn’t hesitate to sit right down on the boy’s legs! Though he caused no harm, it did provide a wake-up call to the child.
The man’s actions were questioned by some commenters, but it got results. That boy wouldn’t listen to reason, and the man took another approach. Hopefully, the child understands subway etiquette and will be a considerate adult!
